Runners learns the hard way not to celebrate too early as he’s pipped at the finishing line

No more fist pumps for you

Kevin McGillicuddy

Nobody likes a gloater

Our old football coach used to get very angry if we didn’t win with dignity and lose with humility. We may not have understood as 12-year-olds who just loved to rub our opponents faces in it, but when you’re on a 18 match losing streak, were we that wrong to gloat over a last gasp 1-1 draw? Hell,it felt like a win to us.

Anyway it taught all the valuable lesson that you only only celebrate when you actually win-and not when you think you have.

A lesson this runner in Oregon could do with having imparted to him after this epic fail.

The Pepsi Team invitational looked like it was going to be easily won by Tanguy Pepiotthis weekend.

So easy in fact that Pepiot himself felt it was a sure thing so he starts fist pumping like some mad American version of Brendan Bugler in the last few metres, until the smile is wiped off his face as Washington’s Meron Simon pips him on the line.

Oddly satisfying seeing him beaten isn’t it
