Seán Óg Ó hAilpín finally calls it a day on a stellar 20 year GAA career

Seán Óg Ó hAilpín has hung up his boots for the last time after announcing his retirement from club Na Piarsaigh in an interview on Newstalk last night.
Ó hAilpín, 37, has attained legendary status in Cork after guiding the county to three SHC All-Irelands (in 1999, 2004 and 2005) but his last club game is now behind him.
Towards the end of the interview on last night's Off the Ball, he said: “That’s it for me now.
“20 years done of club hurling now and happy enough with my lot.
"Let the new breed of Na Piarsiagh hurler drive on.”
After the announcement, Na Piarsaigh's Bill Kelleher spoke to the Evening Echo about the legacy of the Fiji-born Ó hAilpín.
He said: “What can I say, Seán Óg is an idol up here and he always will be. Since he retired from the inter-county scene he has put even more effort into the club.
“He’s a role model in this club and still is and I have no doubt that will continue to be the case. He has always been at our beckoned call both as hurler and a footballer and his commitment was simply fantastic.”Explore more on these topics:
