Kerry to make big backroom changes after All-Ireland final loss

After heading into last month's All-Ireland final against Mayo as heavy favourites, they fell short in terms of effort and execution, and have now failed to retain the All-Ireland title since 2007.

According to the Irish Examiner, Cian O'Neill will not be returning as assistant to manager Jack O'Connor, while Shane O'Rourke is also set to come in strength and conditioning coach.

The Munster Tech lecturer has previous experience with the Kingdom's minor footballers and senior hurlers, as well as the Clare football team.

After the loss in July, O'Connor outlined where he felt his side went wrong, saying: "We started well but I think we were 1-05 to one point up and just got a bit careless then.

"I think the next four attacks, we had a couple of bad wides and we dropped one short.

"That just gave Mayo (belief) and Ryan O'Donoghue went down and kicked a two-pointer, which gave them a bit of belief.

"So suddenly they were back in the game, (Jack) Carney kicked a two-pointer.

"Mayo stayed with us until half-time, their belief grew and I thought in the second half they were better than us."
