Colin O’Riordan’s Swans teammates swarm him as he kicks first goal for Sydney

Colin O’Riordan kicked his first goal as a Sydney Swan as the AFL strugglers picked up their second win of the season in a 77-72 win over Essendon.

O’Riordan was given his second run with the seniors this season and took the most of his chances, sinking a goal from distance after Essendon conceded a 100m penalty.

Not to be outdone, former Tyrone minor Conor McKenna also scored from distance to keep Essendon in the game but the Swans ultimately hung on to seal a valuable win.

Sydney co-captain Luke Parker said that his side needed to re-examine themselves after losing six of their first seven games this season.

“At the end of the day we looked at our performances and there comes a point in time when enough is enough,” he said.

“We have to maintain high standards and get back to who the Bloods are and who the Swans are. Hopefully the win was a step in the right direction and it was great to be in front when the siren went.”
