The club won their first ever Ulster title on Sunday afternoon and despite celebrating the famous victory late into the night, the people of Gaoth Dobhair were ready for action early on Monday morning too in Micís HQ, the pub owned by Kevin Cassidy.
For now at least, it's the centre of the world.
Cassidy had promised the GAA Hour Show a Skype Call live from Micís if they won Ulster but with the celebrations leaving him AWOL, star player Odhran Mac Niallais and captian Niall Friel picked up the phone to Colm Parkinson on Monday's show.
And the boys were on form.
"A Monday morning in Micís, Jesus the place is rocking...I got a few hours sleep because I said to myself today is going to be a massive day," said Friel.
"It's madness, it's like a jungle," added Mac Niallais. "We're down in Micís here and the place is absolutely hopping. It's great craic. We're making the most of it because it's a massive achievement and it's huge for the parish and the club. Things like this don't come around too often," he added.Where else would you rather be? https://twitter.com/KCASS7/status/1069303766497796099 That's where Cassidy is, belting out Sweet Caroline with Neil McGee. https://twitter.com/KCASS7/status/1069593697359147009 Everyone's on fire. https://twitter.com/EamonMcGee/status/1069594895512424449 It's no wonder the place is like that. Just after Gaoth Dobhair had won, Eamon McGee said that the Ulster championship was like the World Cup to them. Something they loved watching but never thought they'd get the chance to play in. This is something out of their wildest dreams and MacNiallais couldn't have agreed more with McGee.
"Winning it isn't even something that you've dreamed of. You dream of winning the county championship but this was never something that came into your head. You always see these great Crossmaglen teams and Slaughtneil, and you just think, Jesus, they're different level and we'll never be able to come close to them.
"The last two years now, this club has taken it to a new level. It's been a quick transition and we're just delighted with it," he said. "It was a tight game, the toughest game we've had all year. The pitch was very heavy too, Scotstown are a quality team...We just said at half-time that every man goes out and empties it, and that's what we did," he added. As for the rest of the week, the party will stay going until they can't go anymore.
"We'll have a few beers today, possibly tomorrow as well, possibly Wednesday and we'll see what Thursday brings. We're going to enjoy it because it's absolutely huge for the county and the parish. We've won county titles before but we've never come close to winning Ulster.https://twitter.com/HMFerry/status/1069534053588746240 When that moment arrives, focus will turn to Corofin.
"We've Corofin in February, we're going to have to get back training for that because we've a lot of work to do. It's good that we've a few weeks to get into better shape and we've time to work on stuff and all," he said. It'll be some Christmas in Gaoth Dobhair. Broadcaster clash could see biggest game of All-Ireland first round behind paywall
This would be disappointing! The All-Ireland first round draw has produced a blockbuster rematch of last years final as Donegal face Kerry. Kerry defeated Donegal 1-26 to 0-19 last July to claim the All-Ireland. However, Donegal have beaten the Kingdom in their latest two meetings with a crucial win coming in the Allianz Football league […]
