Another twist in the tale!

Just as we thought we had seen the last of Kobe McDonald on these shores for the time being, one of his Mayo teammates has hinted that he could potentially be back this season.

Green and Red stalwart, Aidan O'Shea, was speaking after Breaffy's 0-22 to 0-12 win over Ballaghaderreen in the Mayo Senior Club Championship.

Interestingly, he referenced Crossmolina Deel Rovers - the club of McDonald - and their impressive win over Ballintubber, saying: "Crossmolina were electric last night and they’ve Kobe to come back."

However, Crossmolina boss Brian Benson poured cold water on these claims.

He said: "Good question. I genuinely don’t know. I don’t know. That’s the million-dollar question.

"Look, who knows? Obviously, his contract is with St Kilda. It’s up to them whether they release him or not.

"I’m not aware that he’s allowed to play, so I doubt it."

Speaking on McDonald's arrival in Australia, St Kilda GM Lenny Hayes said: "Our expectations for Kobe in the short term are quite modest.

"The priority is helping him settle into Melbourne, build strong relationships at the club and give him the time and support to adapt to a completely new sport.

"We're excited by the attributes he brings, but we also recognise the transition from Gaelic football to AFL takes time.

"We’ll be patient and allow him to gradually integrate into our programme."
