Limerick star Kyle Hayes avoids jail time for breaching sentence

The Treaty player dodged a bullet.

Judge Colin Daly has instead 'deemed him suitable' for 180 hours of community service according to the Irish Independent.

Hayes was convicted of violent disorder, following an incident against Cillian McCarthy at Icon nightclub in Limerick, on October 28, 2019.

After been handed the two-year suspended sentence in March 2024, the 26-year-old breached its terms with a dangerous driving conviction, where he had overtaken nine cars on the N20 and driving 100kph on a 55kph stretch.

Mr Hayes's father, Liam, had previously requested the court not to impose jail time on his son, as he needed him to help out on the family farm, having had heart surgery. Both of Hayes's brothers are currently in jail for an unprovoked assault of their neighbour.

Judge Dara Hayes, who has previously dealt with the hurler's case, is set to finalise the community service order on May 19.
