Joe Brolly used his regular column in the Irish Independent to take aim at Mayo manager Andy Moran, with the Green and Red are still reeling from their Connacht SFC loss to Roscommon last weekend, with their All-Ireland aspirations looking faint, at best.
The outspoken pundit brought up the 2015 statement sent by Mayo players to the county board asking for the removal of joint managers Pat Holmes and Noel Connelly, following their semi-final replay loss to Dublin.
Moran was one of these players, and Brolly held it up as an early example of what he sees as a toxic culture of no accountability.
He believes that Moran has not changed and that he continues a habit of blaming others.
Brolly wrote: "The culture did not change. The outcomes have been exactly as Pat predicted.
"Andy Moran is a product of that culture — a culture where it is always someone else’s fault."
Derry man Brolly also used Moran's words following the loss to Rossies as an example.
Moran said: “We did not take our opportunities, missed a good goal chance, gave them a goal, it was just disappointing......the players take to the pitch, they have to lead it.”
“The simple fact. is that Roscommon were hungrier for the ball than us and that’s the most disappointing thing for me,” an excuse that is the last resort of the bewildered."
"We know now with the new rules that you need to be good on your own kickout, exceptionally good on their kickouts, and you need to win the breaking ball.
"Unfortunately today, it felt like we got well beaten."
