Jackie Tyrrell: I’d argue that’s Brian Cody’s greatest performance

Nine-time All-Ireland winner Jackie Tyrrell has said that Kilkenny's one-point win over Limerick was one of the best performances of Brian Cody's career.

Kilkenny shot out to an early lead before Limerick clawed their way back into the game twice with an Aaron Gillane penalty and a Shane Dowling goal off the bench keeping the All-Ireland champions in the contest.

"We were very lucky when we had our golden days with Kilkenny but I'd argue that that's possibly Brian Cody's greatest achievement to date," Tyrrell said on The Sunday Game. "Getting a team to beat that Limerick team. TJ Reid was awarded the man of the match with 0-08 of Kilkenny's 1-21 but Tyrrell singled out the work of full-back Padraigh Walsh.

"It was just borne out of a willingness not to give in. Limerick came back with the goals and they were great All-Ireland champions, they were, but Kilkenny just refused to give in. "I thought Pádraig Walsh was outstanding. I thought he typified the performance for them. Kikenny were not going to lose and it was just a great performance."
