St Columba's, Glasnevin 3-1 St Mary's Bancroft 0-5
Goals won this game for St Columba's Glasnevin.
For much of the Corn Pádraig Ó Fogartaigh decider, St Columba's Glasnevin were hanging on. By the end of it, they'd mastered the art of closing out a lead.
The northside school got off to an absolute belter of a start in the decider in Croke Park, their powerful and pacy midfielder Lucy Ahern setting the tempo straight from the throw-in.
Ahern won that, before racing down the opposite end of the field to set up an early score for Glasnevin, setting them on their way.
But St Mary's Buncroft have guts and they have resilience in spades. They never led in this game but they never went away either. Full forward and captain Katie Callery was their leader and standout player.
She kicked a few fine scores from open play, while her teammate Hannah Dillon also chipped in. In defence, Amber Yeaters and Katie Sherlock kept them Glasnevin out and kept Bancroft in the game, but in the end, the classy Ahern broke through to rattle the net to seal a hard earned victory for St Columba's.
Ahern was on a different level on Monday, gliding past opponents with consummate ease and the winning captain is certainly a Dublin ladies star for the future.
Emily Rea and Éabha McGowan were the other star players for the winners.

Hup the Yellowbellies! Wexford have been promoted to Division 2, following a last-gasp win over Westmeath at Chadwicks Wexford Park. With the clock winding down, Westmeath had possession and a two-point lead over their promotion-chasing rivals. But a missed attempt at a point gave Wexford one last opportunity, and it was Seán Ryan who hammered […]
At least he sees the funny side. Dublin boss Ger Brennan was given a red card during his side’s Division 1 loss to Galway earlier today. The incident in question occurred on the stroke of half-time, when, after Galway had a penalty saved, tempers flared and Brennan was seen fighting with a Galway mentor and […]
Unreal scenes! Dublin have travelled to Galway for their Division 1 clash this afternoon. With the scores at 0-12 to 0-07 for the visitors, tempers frayed after the Tribesmen missed a penalty. It looked to be over and done with between the players but the scrap made its way to the sidelines, and Sky Blues […]
