Diarmuid Connolly points out disadvantage Ger Brennan would have as Dubs boss

Locked into his role with the Wee County for the last two years, and his job as Gaelic Games Executive in UCD, Brennan will have been outside of Dublin's football club scene.

His former St Vincent's and Dublin teammate, Diarmuid Connolly, has backed him to succeed with the Sky Blues, but is adamant that he will need to pick the right backroom team.

Speaking with Sport'sJOE, BoyleSports ambassador Connolly said: "Ger has always had potential to be a really good coach slash manager. He's a really good way around people.

"Most people that I know that know Ger get on with him very well.

"And it seems to me like his Louth team were like that too. They were all backing him in the media if he was ever getting any stick, they'd always have his back and that side of things.

"And that's not bought like that's real stuff.

"I think Ger could take the Dublin job, no problem.

"He probably needs a coach or two in with him just to steady the ship, especially someone who knows the club scene in Dublin.

"Like Ger's been out of it now for maybe four or five years.

"He's not been with St Vincent's. He's over in UCD, obviously working out there, but he's doing a lot of his football coaching and watching football in Louth.

"So does he know what's happening in underage football, does he know what's coming through?"
