Not since 1959 has Waterford won an All-Ireland title, Sunday now represents their best chance to claim that elusive Liam McCarthy.
Waterford last reached the All-Ireland final in 2008 when Davy Fitzgerald was at the helm but faced a dominant Kilkenny side that beat all before them as they won their third All-Ireland title in a row in convincing fashion.
Well beaten on the day, Waterford lost by 23 points but that could long be forgotten if they win in Croke Park at the weekend.
Tickets will be scarce for the contest between Waterford and Galway, both have such a barren spell of winning All-Ireland titles but there is no doubting that Dublin will be filled with white and blue as well as maroon on Sunday.
One Waterford fan by the name of Noel Mackey loves his county as much as John Mullane and decided to pen a song in honour of his beloved team ahead of the final.
With a well-produced music video to go with it, Mackey explains his inspiration for writing the song:
"I was thinking to myself there are a lot of aul songs floating around on Facebook for the Deise for the All-Ireland and I put on the kettle and put on a cup of tea and got a refill pad off the daughter there and penned a few words together," he said.
