This time out, with Kilmacud Crokes winning against Raheny, Plunketts went into the game knowing they would have to beat Ballyboden by five points to get ahead of them on points difference and reach the quarter finals.
That was going to be a big ask with both Bernard and Alan Brogan on the bench and without the scoring services of Tomás Corrigan. It was another set of brothers - Boden's Colm and Ryan Basquel - that were making an early impact and contributing with key scores that had their side 0-6 to 0-3 up at the break.
Alan Brogan came on for the second half and, within minutes, kicked a point for his team. That would be the height of it for the three-time All Star.
Before the ball could be kicked out, after that score, Brogan tangled with Ballyboden's Bob Dwan and both men were sent off.
Plunketts needed a spark and it came via Bernard Brogan, who found the net not long after his introduction, and it was a case of 'game on'. Ballyboden still held the scoreboard advantage heading into the closing stages until Rory O'Connor's goal put Plunketts two clear.
