French rally king returns for Monte Carlo event

He just can’t stay away.

Nine-times world rally champion Sebastien Loeb is making a comeback at next year’s opening event in Monte Carlo.

The 40-year-old Frenchman, who won the last of his titles in 2012, will be back behind the wheel of a Citroen for one event only in January, and quite frankly it will be hard to bet against him.

Loeb, who will again be joined by co-driver Daniel Elena, competed four times in 2013, winning twice, and has been victorious on seven of his ten visits to Monte Carlo.

‘I didn’t hesitate for a second when I was offered the chance to compete,’ Loeb said. ‘I think Daniel and I would agree that Monte Carlo is one of our favourite events.

‘The beautiful roads, the fact of having to gamble when it comes to tyre choice and the party atmosphere that you get on the stages: we can’t wait to experience it all again!’

But fans hoping for a full-time comeback by Loeb are set to be disappointed as the driver is committed to a full season in the World Touring Car Championship.
