The talk stemmed from the unparalleled trash-talking ability of both men and gathered momentum when McGregor’s boxing became more and more lionised among analysts.
McGregor undeniably has some of the most fluid striking in all of mixed martial arts and he has a background in amateur boxing but, against arguably the greatest of all time, he’d almost certainly struggle.
One of the greatest examples of the counter-punching ability and pinpoint precision of ‘The Notorious’ came in his most recent outing when a stunning four-punch KO put away Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205.
Mayweather’s father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., recently watched that fight and gave his expert analysis on how well the Irishman would fare against his son.
“I don’t think his fundamentals are bad,” Floyd Sr. told FightHub. “But you got to understand, his fundamentals ain’t up there with the man, either. They got levels.
“My son’s gonna cut his beard for him.”
