A goal worthy of the wonderful setting.
Double biology of a Wednesday evening or a journey down to the sunny south east to watch your schools’ best hurlers in one of the most scenic GAA pitches in the country.
You’re leaving James’ Street behind and you’re heading to Bunclody.
Kilkenny CBS were on the road for the Leinster senior schools quarter final and they brought half the school down with them for support.
In Kilkenny, hurling is the main subject and when the hurlers are out, it’s one-in, all in. The second and third years will have their day in the big time but for the moment, they’re watching, they’re learning and they’re dreaming.
The CBS were up against Wexford’s finest St Peter’s College in the lion’s den and thanks to a heroic performance from their rising star Luke Hogan from O’Loughlin Gaels, they’re now striding into the last four with their heads up.
That man Hogan hit 2-1 from play down in Wexford, the second of his goals a delightful solo effort which sent the crowd buck mad.
He picked the ball up in his own half back line and as soon as the big, rangy forward started galloping, you could sense the danger and the possibility. He’d scored the crucial goal to beat rivals St Kieran’s College in the League recently and he was the man the danger ball.
He hared past two, three, four defenders before lashing an unstoppable bullet into the roof of the Wexford net.
With the sun shining, the church glowing in between the trees and the pitch perched, the captain took centre stage and he led by example.

The Kilkenny CBS support went wild. That’s what they want to do in years to come, that’s the beauty of schools hurling.
They’re into the semi-final draw along with City rivals St Kieran’s College and Dublin’s Coláiste Eoin and Dublin North College’s too.
