Five-time All Star John Mullane let his feeling be known on the GAA's idea to change the date of next year's National Hurling League Division 1A final.
According to reports, the proposal has a strong chance of coming to fruition, and would see the final played at the TUS Gaelic Grounds and moved from April to the weekend of September 17-19, coinciding with the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor.
Speaking on the Indo GAA's hurling podcast, Mullane described the notion as "absolute bullshit" and "insane".
He said: “Lads, what do you think of this nonsense? Absolute nonsense of trying to put a league final on in September to coincide with the Ryder Cup. I mean, oh my, don’t get me started now. Jesus!”
He made a further point, arguing that clubs need to do their best to make games on GAA+ free-to-air, in order to stop the drop off in playing numbers at underage.
He added: “We have a big problem going forward. We’re on about promoting the game for Yanks. We’re going to sleepwalk into a big problem in the next 10-15 years, if we're not careful.”
