This needs to happen!

The major talking point after Clare's loss to Limerick in their All-Ireland SHC semi-final, was the decision not to give goalkeeper Nicky Quaid a black card for taking out Peter Duggan.

The Clare man was through on goal and scooped the ball over Quaid, before being tripped.

However, the referee argued that because he scooped the sliotar, he was not in possession, and thus, by the rules, he could not give a black card.

Nonetheless, it could be argued that he was still in possession as he scooped the ball on purpose with the intention of running onto it.

On RTÉ, Anthony Daly acknowledged that he could see both sides of the argument, but called for a change to the rule.

He said: "What I would argue is that he knows exactly what he's doing..... I think he scoops the ball over his head.

"Now look you could be right Joanne, he's not in possession of the ball, but I said it in Thurles after the Dublin game, we need to change the rule.

"Nicky knew what he was doing by tripping him. And maybe in the rules it's not a black card, but my God if Nicky Quaid is not there for the last ten minutes and you get a penalty it's game over."

Alongside Daly were Patrick Horgan and Liam Sheedy, who nodded in agreement.
