New Irish record

The record for fastest 100m run in Ireland has been broken.

Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake set a new record for quickest sprint over 100m on Irish soil at the Morton Games in Santry on Friday.

Blake’s time of 10.12 seconds allowed the second fastest man on the planet to defeat compatriots Michael Frater and Mario Forsythe, and beat Warren Fraser’s  12-month-old record of 10.20 seconds.

The Jamaican admitted he was slightly disappointed that he didn’t run a sub-10 second race, but sounded his appreciation for the Santry track.

“It’s wonderful to be here, on a really nice track, with a really nice welcome.”

“I was hoping to run nine-something here, but there are still some technical problems with my running, which I’m working on. But I’m feeling good, building up again for next year.”
