A strange incident occurred at a meet in Wexford
A Claiming Hurdle contest took place on Wednesday evening in Wexford. The race was won by Beacon Edge and jockey Josh Halford.
It looked like Redwood Queen, rode by Philip Byrnes, was going to take victory up until the final flight.
But despite jumping over the hurdle successfully, Byrnes was unseated from Redwood Queen and Beacon Edge came in to steal the win. The stewards in Wexford reviewed the unseating and considered the matter but took no further action.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board has confirmed that they will conduct a further investigation into the matter.
An IHRB spokesperson said on Thursday: “We note the position of the race day stewards following their review of the incident. We can now confirm the matter is down for review by an IHRB senior racing official.”
Coverage on Racing TV described the unseat as soft after the contest.
