Mo Farah says Andy Vernon row began after remark hinting at Farah’s Britishness

The bad blood dates back to last year's European Championships

Mo Farah’s twitter schmozzle with teammate Andy Vernon was certainly one of the more bizarre stories we’ll see this week.

And the Olympic hero has revealed that the bad blood between the pair stems from comments Vernon made after their 10,ooom one-two at last year’s European Championships.

Farah, who won gold in that race, told the Guardian that his teammate said he was the real champion, due to Farah being born outside Europe.

Farah said: “One comment he made, which I didn’t really like, was to say that he should have won the gold.

“I was like: ‘What, the gold should have been given to you?’ And I was like: ‘Because he was the only European guy?’ You can’t say something like that. I was just kind of biting my tongue at the time.”

“I don’t know what he meant. But at that point it hurt me. But I moved on. That was private. But to come out publicly and say something like that was just like, you know, that’s why I reacted.”

Vernon has admitted to making the comments, but insisted that it was just a joke.

Either way, we’d love to be a fly on the wall the next time this pair meet.
