Ireland reached the Olympic final of the Women's 4x400m relay race after qualifying from a thrilling semi-final race in Paris on Friday.
Mawdsley, who ran the anchor leg, recorded a time of 49.65, the fastest split of anyone who raced in the heat.
It will be the first time that Ireland has ever competed in the final of the Women's 4x400m relay at the Olympics.

The Women's 4x400m final is scheduled to start at 8:14 pm and will be the last race of the track meet at the Olympics.

Ireland have recorded the third-fastest time this season of the teams who will take part in the 4x400m relay final.
The Irish team also finished second at the European Championships in June, behind the Netherlands, who are in lane 5 for Saturday's Olympic final.
The USA and Netherlands are heavy favourites to win a medal, but Ireland could be among the medals if they record a new season's best time in the race.

The Irish team of Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, Kelly McGrory, and Sharlene Mawdsley finished third in their heat with a time of 3:25.05.
They will race in the Olympic final at the Stade de France on Saturday night, and Rhasidat Adeleke is expected to come into the team after she finished fourth in her 400m final on Friday night.
