Selfish ol’ Bruce Springsteen forces rescheduling of Leinster Championship quarter-finals

Don't you hate it when rock stars don't take GAA club schedules into account when organising their tour dates?

Is Bruce Springsteen going to explain to Moorefield or Oulart-The Ballagh that their fixture lists may be thrown into disarray. It was announced on Thursday morning that Springsteen is set to bring his 'River Tour 2016' to Croke Park on the last weekend in May. And with tickets for both the Friday night and Saturday night shows expected to sell out, 'The Boss' is likely to add a third date, on Sunday, May 29. The only issue is that the Leinster Championship quarter-finals had initially been set for that very day with Wexford v Kildare (senior football) and Dublin v Wexford (senior hurling) pencilled into the calendar since last November. The GAA has since released a statement on those fixtures, revealing that "these games will now take place as a double header at Croke Park on Saturday, May 21.

"The Leinster Council and all three counties involved in the May 29 fixtures were aware in advance of the concert and are happy to accommodate the switch to a new date."

While the double-header has been rescheduled, the switch will likely drip down to more scheduling headaches for clubs who had been building their fixtures around the original dates. Hopefully they wont have been affected too badly and the change has come early enough for everything to be rearranged.
