The Ulster San Francisco Gaelic football team are gunning for a senior championship final this weekend in Treasure Island and Joe Duffy's side are having a bit of craic in their preparations for the decider. In fairness, all of the Irish GAA players who flock in America to play GAA for the summer always seem to have a bit of craic. With the club scene put on hold until August in most counties nowadays, some club players and inter-county lads who's counties are knocked out of the championship early on in the summer make the journey Stateside. There's a strong Irish connection all over America none-more-so than in San Francisco, where well known inter-county players such as Waterford's Patrick Curran and Tipperary's Michael Breen are basing themselves for the summer. Obviously, it's not taken as seriously as back home but it's certainly a good way to keep the competitive juices flowing while seeing parts of the world that many of these explorers have never gotten the chance to explore before. Ulster club San Fran are one of the Bay area's most prominent football clubs. From Tipperary senior Emmet Moloney to Dublin star Shane Carthy, they lured a number of highly rated young footballers over to California this year. In preparation for their final against Young Islanders St Brendan's on Sunday, and in a bid to promote the good GAA work going on over on the other side of the world, the club created a website with match updates via their blog and a number of other interesting features.
