Paddy Carr resigns after ‘discussion with senior members of Donegal team’

Things are going from bad to worse for Donegal.

The upheaval in Donegal GAA is showing no signs of calming with the news breaking this afternoon that Paddy Carr has resigned from his position as manager of the county's senior football team. Things started well for Carr and Donegal when they beat Kerry on a momentous day in Ballybofey but as time has passed it has become apparent that the victory was merely papering over cracks. Donegal haven't won a game since, they've lost four, drawn one and ahead of the last round of fixtures of the Allianz League, they look all but destined for relegation to Division Two for next season. https://twitter.com/SportTG4/status/1619729026146263040 They also have a tricky first round in the Ulster championship coming up when they take on Down in less than five weeks. The team lacked an attacking threat throughout the League - they only scored one goal (an Oisin Gallen penalty) - as they struggled in the absence of Paddy McBrearty and Ryan McHugh, and without the retired Michael Murphy. Carr released a statement through Donegal GAA today to announce that his time was up. “Following a discussion with some senior members of the Donegal football team, I want to announce that I’m stepping away from the position of Donegal team Manager with immediate effect. I want nothing more than the best for Donegal and that will never change." Things are up in the air in Donegal on the back of Karl Lacey's recent departure from his role as head of their academy.
