Mayo will take on Kerry today in the National Football League Division 1 final at Croke Park, after topping the regular season table.
They will no doubt have one eye on next week's Connacht opener against Sligo at MacHale Park, but a victory today would make them real contenders in the minds of most fans.
The Connacht men have famously not won an All-Ireland title since 1951, losing 11 finals since, with their last in 2021 when they were defeated by Tyrone.
However, outspoken-pundit Joe Brolly still thinks that this current Mayo team do not have what it takes to break the losing streak this year.
In his column for the Irish Independent, he wrote:
"They remain the country’s most entertaining team. By that, I mean that every game is an event. An excitement.
"The problem is that none of their games give us a whole performance. They are up. They are down. They look superb. They look awful.
"Fundamentally, they are not serious. By this, I mean that they do not have the vibe of All-Ireland winners — cohesive, certain of themselves and pathologically locked in on one goal."
