Controversial handpass rule thrown out after GAA Central Council vote

Well, that did not last long. A meeting of the GAA's Central Council has concluded with a vote on the proposed imitation of hand-passes to three in the 2019 National Football League. The hand-pass rule had been imposed in regional inter-county competitions and was expected to be trialled in the Allianz Leagues. It had drawn the ire of many players and coaches, however, and was discussed at the council meeting at Croke Park this morning. A vote was taken and the restriction of the handpass rule was defeated 25-23. The four other proposals trialled in pre-season, such as sin bins for players black-carded and kicking upfield from sideline balls, will apply in the league.
