82-point win in Sligo senior hurling championship

We're sick saying it at this stage, but Coolera-Strandhill needs to be split in two.

Sligo hurling is in a good place at present. Lory Meagher champions, Croke Park success, and a rise of ash from the ashes of the north-west. With the Calry/St. Joseph's juggernaut given an early test by one of the main contenders Western Gaels, the champions emerged with eight points to spare but very little scoring difference in a tight 2-12 to 0-10 win. So all eyes turned to Coolera-Strandhill, another club touted to challenge Calry/St. Joseph's and, if they were using this outing against Tubbercurry to see what sort of shape they were in, then by God they can rest easy in the knowledge that they are f**king flying.

Tubbercurry are a long way from the might their hurlers once lorded over the Yeats county. From 1995 to 2004, they won 10 consecutive Sligo senior hurling titles but they haven't been back to those heights since 2006. Back in 2011, they reemerged in a decider but a one-point loss to Calry/St. Joseph's started a new streak of what is now seven-in-a-row. Coolera, meanwhile, have no hurling honours to write into the club's history but after hitting Tubbercurry for 52 scores, you have to imagine there's a bit of a buzz around the peninsula now. https://twitter.com/sligogaa/status/1016039655815483392 Hammerings happen all the time, all over Ireland at every age group, in every code, and every side has struggled to score at one point or another but very few have been as relentlessly merciless and lethal as Coolera-Strandhill were to run up 16-36 across 60 minutes of hurling. Their next game is away to Western Gaels on July 22 but they'll really know more about themselves the following weekend when they welcome the champions, Calry/St. Joseph's to Ransboro Park. But who wouldn't fancy themselves after a result like that?
