A game of two halves for Ulster - one great, one wretched

Ulster allowed Benetton Treviso fight back from 24-0 down but held on for a four-point lead after a late knock-on cost the Italians at Stadio di Mongio. Tries from Paddy Jackson, Ruan Pienaar and Tommy Bowe - and a Jackson penalty - gave Neil Doak's men a first-half lead that seemed insurmountable. However, Treviso registered a converted try from Sam Christie before the break. Jared Payne, fit again after two months sidelined with a foot injury, replaced Darren Cave in midfield on 52 minutes and looked sprightly alongside Stuart Olding. Treviso flanker Francesco Minto burst free for a try as the game reached the final quarter. Jayden Hayward missed the conversion but landed two penalties to make it a four-point game with eight minutes to go. A late intercept had Ulster supporters sweating but the ball was spilled forward and the visitors survived. Missing out on the bonus point cost Ulster a spot in the top four. They now turn their attention to a forlorn Champions Cup campaign. Paddy Jackson socres a try 11/1/2015
