UFC middleweight couldn’t have done a better job of summing up Irish fight fans’ hopes

On the money

He was born in North Carolina, he trains out of New Mexico but you’d have been led to believe that Derek Brunson is as Irish as a mammy peeling spuds, whinging about the weather.

The UFC middleweight perfectly encapsulated the hopes of Irish fight fans with his advice for the UFC on Tuesday night.

Brunson, who is on a three-fight win streak in the UFC, has revealed that he wants to see Conor McGregor take on number one contender Frankie Edgar on Irish soil.

Brunson is a fan of both McGregor and Edgar and makes a really good point about what both fighters deserve but we don’t think he’s exactly au fait with the ol’ Croke Park Residents Association.

A must-follow on Twitter, Brunson has also revealed that he’d love to be able to make 145 lbs just to get the so-called “red panty night” experience that comes with a fight against Conor McGregor.
