The Game of Thrones star is getting seriously ripped for his boxing match against Eddie Hall

‘The Mountain’ Hafthor Bjornsson has revealed the diet and workout plan which has seen him shed around 50 kilograms in weight.

Bjornsson is in training for a grudge boxing match against fellow strongman icon Eddie Hall later this year, and has had to strip a serious amount of weight for the fight.

Over the last six months, Bjornsson has gone from a whopping 205 kilograms in weight (451 lbs) to a much leaner 155 kilograms (341 lbs).

The 32-year-old has recently revealed the exact diet and training routine responsible for fuelling such efforts.

How did The Mountain lose 50 kilograms in weight?

Strongman competitors are renowned for wolfing down a humungous amount of food each day. For example, the Stoltman brothers previously told JOE about the 9,000 calorie diets they maintain during competition season.

In order for Bjornsson to blast so much body fat, his diet therefore needed an overhaul – with the intensity of his workouts also requiring an upsurge.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Bjornsson documented a ‘day in the life’ on his current training and diet schedule.

Hafthor Bjornsson’s diet and training plan

Meal One

  • Three eggs
  • 200 grams chicken
  • Smoothie (150 grams green yogurt, 100 grams strawberries or blueberries, 40 grams oats)

Meal one is followed by a boxing technique workout.

Meal Two

  • 220 grams tenderloin beef
  • 180 grams white rice
  • 100 grams green vegetables

Bjornsson then hits the gym for a weights session.

Meal Three

  • 220 grams chicken
  • 250 grams potatoes
  • 100 grams green vegetables

This meal is subsequently followed by a rest period.

Meal Four

  • 220 grams salmon
  • 100 grams green vegetables
  • 100 grams white rice

Meal Five

  • 250 grams greek yogurt
  • 50 grams almond butter
  • 100 grams bananas
  • 1 scoop whey protein shake

In the video, Bjornsson says he feels a lot fitter and healthier.

“I feel so much better than I felt when I was 205 kilograms.

“I was force feeding myself every single day, about to puke every single day.

“I kept eating because my goal was to be the strongest human on this earth. Now I have different goals so I don’t have to be force feeding myself. Feels good.”

Why is Hafthor Bjornsson fighting Eddie Hall in a boxing match?

The rivalry between Bjornsson and Hall goes all the way back to World’s Strongest Man 2017, when the Icelander accused Hall of cheating as he became the first Brit to lift the World’s Strongest Man title for more than 20 years.

The bad blood between the pair intensified last year when Bjornsson broke Hall’s 500kg world deadlift record – by a single kilo.

The Icelander promptly challenged Hall to a boxing match after the deadlift event.

Last year, The Mountain gave us a virtual tour of his incredible home gym.

Eddie Hall has also undergone a seriously impressive weight loss transformation in preparation for the clash. You can read about it here.
