Paul Brady’s record is hilarious.
- 5 World Championships
- 5 US Open Titles
- 10 US National Titles
- 10 All-Ireland Singles
- 10 All-Ireland Doubles
The Cavan handball legend had a decent weekend’s work after he took home a total of $12,500 from California and another US Open to boast.
$10,000 for winning the US Open. $2,500 for reaching the doubles final.
At 36 years of age, Brady showed age was merely a number after he made the long trek across the Atlantic to take down the best America has to offer, ousting the enigmatic US number one Luis Moreno, nicknamed ‘The Natural’, in the final.
Brady gave up nine years to his opponent, and was playing his seventh match in four days (two more than Moreno due to Brady’s commitments in the Doubles section as well). But the Irish man’s conditioning was on point yet again, a renowned facet of his continued success.
Arizona’s Moreno looked explosive from the off, storming to a 14-5 lead but, eventually, Brady moved through the gears and went on a sensational 37-6 run of points to seal victory 21-15, 21-5.
Don’t poke the Cavan bear and all that.
Brady has remarkably only lost three matches in 12 years, and his trophy cabinet is now looking ridiculously impressive.
