It’s a tough gig, building up to ask someone if they think they’ll be in a job next season.
In fairness though, Laois manager Peter Creedon must’ve somewhat expected it on Saturday after the Leinster outfit crashed out of the championship in Round 2 having shipped two heavy defeats to both Kildare and Clare.
Before that, they were condemned to Division Four of the National Football League when the county was being tipped to progress to the second tier back in February. We’re a long way from that now.
It’s safe to say that it hasn’t been a good first season for Creedon who was asked a couple of tough questions by The GAA Hour’s Colm Parkinson from 55:20 below.
Here’s a little transcript from the interview.
Colm: What was the game plan today, Peter? It looked to me like Donie [Kingston] was being isolated completely on his own and the ball going into him only went in three times in a full half. The odd time he did catch one, he had nobody around him. What was the plan?
Peter: The plan was no different to most teams. We had Stephen [Attride] coming out a little bit and we were trying to get room inside for Gary [Walsh] and Donie to pull away their sweeper. Gary could’ve got a goal out of that particular move we’ve been doing in training and it would’ve stood us in good stead in the first half.
Colm: Gary was out around the half forward line, wasn’t he? Donie was in there completely on his own so, when he did get it, there was no support for him.
Peter: We were trying to get guys up to support him and maybe that didn’t happen as much as we would’ve liked. It is what it is. I’m not going to over-analyse it tonight.
Colm: What about your own future then? Do you want to stay on? Do you think you should stay on considering the relegation, the Kildare match and today’s hammering as well?
Peter: I’ve never left a team that I’ve been involved in in a worse situation than when I started and I certainly won’t be doing that.
