For Mayo supporters, winning the All-Ireland title went someways to easing the pain of losing Kobe McDonald to the AFL.
The teenager jets off to Australia next month with his family to begin a stint with St Kilda in Melbourne.
With an All Star award in his first year as a senior Mayo player, it is certainly a big knock to their hopes of retaining their All-Ireland crown next year, and fans can only dream of how good McDonald would have become had he stayed and matured in Gaelic football.
However, Kobe has added to the hope that down the line he will someday come back and don the Green and Red once again.
In his latest comments for the Irish Times, he said: "I don’t want to go there and just blend in, that’s not my nature. You obviously strive to be the best, strive to be one of the best at least. But there are no guarantees...
"Yeah, look, I’m sure there’ll be a time in the future where I’ll be home. I don’t look too far ahead, I look to the next step.
"Right now, I’m an All-Ireland champion with this Mayo team. In three weeks’ time that will be done and I’ll be a St Kilda footballer, and we’ll see what happens after that."
