Kildare star has taken the ‘Championship haircut’ to a whole new planet

The freshest of fades you're likely to see

The ‘Championship haircut’ has embedded itself into GAA culture with a sweeping popularity and effectiveness that no-other pre-game ritual can even dream of matching.

It’s a rite of passage for the modern day player.

If you don’t visit your trusted barber in the days leading up to a Championship clash, you should really be asking yourself the question, ‘am I making a satisfactory commitment to my team, and my teammates?’

Thankfully, not too many have to pose themselves with this soul-searching interrogation.

The ideal time for the fresh champo trim is two/three days before throw-in, just so you have ample time to acclimatise yourself with your new found aerodynamic-ness.

Many players are motivated by the ‘look good, feel good, play good’ motto and the pre-game trim is a required step in building this aura.

The trim isn’t just aesthetically based, it is mental too. A top barnet goes hand in hand with a top display, after all.

We’ve seen some decent efforts before, Damien Comer has shown well, Paul Galvin too. Dave Slattery has gone and outdone them all.

Diarmuid O’Connor wonders why he was knocked over like a bowling pin by this man, just look at that skin-fade.

Kildare’s wing forward Dave Slattery is setting a shining example to his team-mates ahead of their Leinster final clash with Dublin on Sunday.

He is acting, he is leading, he is inspiring.

Ever wondered why Dave Slattery was able to cut through the Meath defence like a knife through butter in the Leinster semi-final.

Answer: He’s keeping his barber busy.

Slattery, who works as a fitness instructor in Tallaght, was obeying the majority of the Championship trim commandments on Thursday.

Those are as follows.

  1. Fade is fresh (But not too fresh)
  2. Top heavy – Business at the sides, Party up top.
  3. Two/three days before Champo (See 1)
  4. Barber is thanked. (Instagram post/Snapchat)
  5. Complimentary facial hair (optional)

Slattery has laid down the gauntlet for his Lilywhite teammates to follow, and Dublin defenders will undoubtedly be quaking in their boots as soon as they visit Instagram.

That’s a sick fade if we’ve ever seen one.

Good work Dave, top lad.
