He did not hold back!

The topic of hype and how it affects teams has been a huge part of the discourse around the All-Ireland championship this year, in both hurling and Gaelic football.

First it was Cork who were questioned after their defeat to Galway, and then it was Mayo boss Andy Moran who was asked about fan hype ahead of their All-Ireland final appearance, with their county suffering eight final defeats this century.

Moran was not pleased with the question and the sniggering from journalists that followed it.

He said: "You laugh at that, lads. I don't laugh at that.

"I find it very actually dismissive, if I'm being honest. I think it's a bulls**t question. I think it's a disrespectful question.

"Our county has been starved the last four or five years. If they go a bit nuts, let them.

"You're going to go to a game tomorrow. Every single one of ye, you're going to write that Kerry or Dublin will go to win the All-Ireland final, right? Right?

"Does anyone here think we're going to win the All-Ireland final? No. Thank you.

"So that question is nonsense. If our supporters want to enjoy it, let them enjoy it."

Writing in his column for RTÉ, Moran's former teammate Lee Keegan referenced the 'sniggering' and the dismissive attitude around Mayo.

He commended the manager for his response, and also called out the outspoken Joe Brolly, who happens to reside in Knockmore in Mayo.

Keegan wrote: "That dismissive attitude seems to be relentless when it comes to Mayo.

"I can't help but think it explains why so many pundits were tipping Louth last week (just the 17 points in the difference in the end, was it?)

"Of course the same evening, we were treated to more bulls**t nonsense in the Sunday Independent from a Knockmore resident."

The 'nonsense' he was referring to was Brolly's Irish Independent column, which had the headline 'We all know All-Ireland finals are a disaster for Mayo.'
