Jason Forde’s stats in recent weeks show a scoring machine at the peak of his powers

The man is on fire.

Jason Forde was voted the GAA’s hurler of the week on Tuesday afternoon – to the surprise of no-one.

The prolific Tipperary full-forward was once again the star of the show for Tipp, scoring a wonderful 2-9 as they ran out 3-21 to 1-21 winners against Davy Fitzgerald’s Wexford.

The Nenagh native, who received a one-match suspension after clashing with Fitzgerald last year, had the last laugh at Semple Stadium, terrorising the Model County’s defence in a virtuoso display.

His first goal came after being teed up by Sean Curran before adding a second after some fine work from John McGrath.

And it was merely the continuation of the Silvermines man’s scintillating form in recent weeks.

His stats from January 21 are scary stuff. Per The GAA Wrap, Forde has racked up 8-43 in his last six outings for county and UL in the Fitzgibbon Cup.

Forde has been a real force for Tipp and he will be sorely missed when Michael Ryan’s men take on Kilkenny in the league this Sunday at Nowlan Park. Forde is one of four, alongside McGrath, Barry Heffernan and Paul Maher, who won’t feature against the Cats due to Fitzgibbon Cup duties, with UL taking on DCU in the final on Saturday.

But Tipp’s loss is UL’s gain and, considering his recent form, we’re fully expecting Forde to play a prominent role in the Fitzgibbon final in Mallow.
