Sensational stuff!

The All-Ireland finals, in both football and hurling, always bring new viewers to the GAA; amazed by the two phenomenal sports they are witnessing for the the first time.

This year was a little different, however, with Mayo's win reaching further afield, due to the weight of history behind the victory and the manner in which they achieved it.

The clip of the final minute of the game and the immediate celebrations was shared widely on social media, much to the amazement of first-time viewers.

Joe Biden, who has roots in Mayo, is not a first-time viewer, but was quick to congratulate the team with a classy message.

He wrote: "I said it three years ago when I was in Ballina: Mayo for Sam! And I meant it.

"I said it because I know what it means not just the county of Mayo but to my own family's story. Today, the dream becomes reality.

"Congratulations to my friends in Mayo. You earned this victory. Enjoy every minute. Sam is coming home."

Peggy, the mother of Oasis' Gallagher brothers, hails from Mayo, and the two rockstars also paid tribute after the game.

Noel wrote: "FINALLY!! UP MAYO!!"

Liam said: "Congratulations MAYO lick it up to ras very proud LG x".
