GAA JOE club football team of the year

Niall McIntyre

We’ve been blessed with yet another brilliant All-Ireland club football championships.

Having come up short in last year’s final, Watty Graham’s Glen bounced back to become ‘kings of Ireland’ this year.

Malachy O’Rourke’s side navigated their way through a tricky Ulster campaign before getting the better of Kilmacud Crokes in the semi-final.

They under-performed, for large parts in the final, but still got the job done against a rampant St Brigid’s side who will be left to rue Conor Glass’ late game-changing goal.

That man Glass was man-of-the-match in the final and he leads the five-strong Glen contingent on our team of the year. Glass is joined by his team-mates Eunan Mulholland, who had been brilliant up until a calf injury curtailed his influence in the final, Ciaran McFaul, Ryan Dougan and Emmett Bradley.

St Brigid’s also have five in Brian Stack, Ruaidhri Fallon, Eddie Nolan, Brian Derwin and Ben O’Carroll while beaten Ulster finalists Scotstown account for three, in Rory Beggan, Conor McCarthy and Kieran Hughes.

Shane Walsh (Kilmacud Crokes) and Brian Hurley (Castlehaven) are their club’s sole representatives.
