“No matter what happens lads, keep going, keep going, keep f**king going. Keep going!”
So begins a sweeping, evocative package put together for the Boston GAA finals that featured Dublin star Diarmuid Connolly in the day’s main match, between Donegal Boston and Wolfe Tones.
The video was beautifully put together by Rachel O’Driscoll. She played, and won, for Connacht Ladies Boston on a day that featured a range of finals, junior and senior, and grabbed her camera afterwards.
The piece captures all the colour, passion, music and drama involved on a day that is the highlight for Boston GAA, and the Irish community, each year.
O’Driscoll follows the men’s football final between a strong Wolfe Tones and a Donegal Boston team that entered the match on an impressive winning streak.
Credit: Rachel O’DriscollThe game itself was a tense, thrilling affair but it was Connolly that was the match-winning talisman. Double-marked for long periods, he invariably found a yard or two to bring teammates into the game, create scoring chances and pop a few points over the bar.
He looked sharp as ever and able to step even the closest markers at will.
Donegal led 0-7 to 0-5 at the break and, ultimately, that was the margin they were ahead when the full-time whistle sounded.
0-17 to 1-12 in the end and Connolly, who was equally deadly from frees, kicked 12 points.
Credit: Rachel O’DriscollThe 31-year-old may have missed out on All-Ireland glory with Dublin but he will long remember that glorious Sunday at Canton Field with his new band of brothers.
O’Driscoll’s video also captures all the fun and pageantry around the big day and there are some wonderful crowds shots and of young, enthusiastic children – GAA’s next generation – watching their heroes and itching to get out in their footsteps.
