Here’s how you can watch the rest of the championship with Irish-language commentary

Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste

Conan Doherty

When you don’t have the luxury of Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh flitting freely between different tongues, action must be taken.

RTÉ have increased the number of matches that will be available with Irish-language commentary for the 2017 season.

The broadcaster will show 10 of the 12 football and hurling championship All-Ireland series games from the quarter-final onwards and all of these will be available as Gaeilge.

With Irish-language commentary coming from the mouth of Garry Mac Donncha and analysis and wisdom being imparted by Kerry and Offaly legends Dara Ó Cinnéide and Pat Fleury, audiences at home will have the option of watching the biggest games in football and hurling in their native tongue.

Options in both Irish and English will be provided from the quarter-final stage onwards, starting with the hurling quarter-final between Clare and Tipperary from Páirc Ui Chaoímh this Saturday.

Football

Quarter-final – Roscommon v Cork/Mayo/Donegal (July 30) – RTÉ

Quarter-final – Kerry v Mayo/Donegal/Galway (July 30) – RTÉ

Quarter-final – Tyrone v Kildare/Monaghan/Armagh (August 5) – Sky Sports

Quarter-final – Dublin v Down/Armagh/Monaghan (August 5) – Sky Sports

Hurling

Quarter-final – Clare v Tipperary (July 22) – RTÉ

Quarter-final – Wexford v Waterford (July 23) – RTÉ

With Cork and Galway already in the hurling semi-final, there are just two quarter-final games to be played with the ash, both of which will be available in different languages.

RTÉ however do not have rights to broadcast the B side of the football quarter-finals and therefore this option will not apply to the games involving Dublin and Tyrone.

From the semi-final onward, every clash will be called in Irish.
