DIT annihilated Tralee IT in the Sigerson Cup quarter-finals, but Brian Howard played no part in the game.
Brian Howard missed out on his college's emphatic 3-17 to 1-7 win to book a semi-final place in an effort to stay fit and ready for the Dublin senior team.
Despite being on a scholarship, Howard had his eye on the Dubs' big game at the weekend. While his decision may jeopardise his education, playing in a college game four days before an intercounty clash could have jeopardised his chances of breaking into one of the most competitive teams of all time.
For now, Howard has got the result he would have wanted from the choice. He's got his spot in the starting XV against Donegal in the Allianz League.
He'll get to make that walk onto Croke Park's hallowed soil for the 7pm kick-off in a game that will be televised on EirSport.
