Video: Gennady Golovkin says he wants unification fight with Andy Lee

GGG would like to add the Limerick man's belt to his haul

If all goes to plan, a mega fight could be on the cards

While we all rejoiced when Andy Lee won the WBO Middleweight crown on Saturday night in Las Vegas, all the other belts in the division are held by one, very fearsome, man.

Gennady ‘GGG’ Golvkin is the undefeated WBA, WBC and IBF Middleweight champion of the world and arguably the best in the business on the pound-for-pound list.

With 28 KOs in his 31 fight career, one of which stopped Matthew Macklin in 2013, Golovkin would have watched Andy Lee’s capture of the WBO belt with interest, and the folks at BoxingScene caught up with the Kazakh to ask him about it.

As you might imagine, Golovkin was more interested in talking about his upcoming bout with Martin Murray in February but when it came to the Limerick man, Golvkin admitted he was impressed with Lee’s ‘great performaance’ before saying that ‘I want it’ when asked about a unification bout for all the marbles with the Irishman.

Providing that Golovkin beats Murray, and that Lee can see off the likely challenge of Billy Joe Saunders, the biggest fight in years could be on the agenda.
