The Limerick man would be a major underdog in a unification bout
Kazakh sensation Gennady Golovkin added yet another knockout to his imperious record with a sixth-round stoppage of American Willie Monroe Jr last night.
The 33-year-old WBA middleweight champion knocked Monroe down three times in all, the challenger eventually admitting he’d had enough punishment.
It was Golovkin’s 20tjh consecutive KO, and the 33-year-old even conceded that he had allowed Monroe briefly back into the fight to give the fans in California their money’s worth.

With potentially huge fights against Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez perhaps a little way down the road, Golovkin will now turn his attention to the other middleweight title-holders as he bids to unify the division, including Ireland’s Andy Lee, who won the WBO title against Matt Korobov last year.
“We can’t make those guys [Canelo and Cotto] fight him,’ promoter Tom Loeffler said. ‘If we could get Cotto in the ring it would be great. Canelo looks like he wants to wait to build it up some more.”
“I am the real champion. I want unification,” Golovkin said. “Let’s go. Let’s do it, guys. Who is No. 1 right now? Bring it on. I will show you.”
