Tyson Fury ‘close to agreeing’ world title fight

He could beat 'AJ' to the WBC title shot

This would be huge.

Tyson Fury is being eased back into boxing, that much is clear. But he could find himself in the deep end very soon if Frank Warren’s plans come to fruition.

Fury is preparing for his second fight back since his three years away from the ring and upcoming opponent Francesco Pianeta should pose more of a threat than Sefer Seferi, the Albanian heavyweight who quit on his stool when he welcomed Fury back to the sport last month.

The undefeated Brit is eager to reclaim the belts he never lost in the ring but he could get the opportunity to win the only major title that eluded him before then.

Warren has revealed that talks are underway to see Fury fight WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder as early as November.

Negotiations have stalled between Wilder and Anthony Joshua, which has opened the door for Fury to stake his claim for a title shot.

After Saturday night’s impressive victories for both Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora, it had been suggested that the British heavyweights would make sense as potential options for Fury but ‘The Gypsy King’ has set himself a greater target.

“Well, actually they’re two competitive and very good fighters but, with due respect to them, we’re actually trying to make the fight with Deontay Wilder,” Warren said on talkSPORT.

“First of all we want to see what he looks like on the August 18. Hopefully he will come through it well, but reports from the gym are that he’s looking well. Tyson, as he’s said himself, has been talking about Wilder in the last few weeks and it’s a fight I think the British fans would like to see. It wouldn’t happen in the autumn, if it happens it will be sometime in November or December.”

Fury has since confirmed to Manchester Evening News that he is close to agreeing a fight with the American.

I can confirm that me and Deontay Wilder are in negotiations and it’s very close to being done.

“It’s out there now and I can reveal that negotiations are very strong for December and we’re almost done with this deal.

“I won’t be overlooking Francesco Pianeta. He’s going to give me the right fight and the right work to prepare me for Wilder.
