Laois’ TJ Doheny looks frightening ahead of title fight

Conan Doherty

Thursday morning, 9am, TJ Doheny is looking to make history.

A Portlaoise man living in Australia fighting for a world title in Tokyo.

The opponent: Ryosuke Iwasa.

On the line: the IBF World super-bantamweight belt.

On Wednesday night (Irish time), the Irish boxer weighed in under the 122-pound limit and all that’s left to do is ring the bell.

The champion and home fighter Iwasa enjoys a professional 25-2 record with 16 knockouts along the way too.

But Doheny is hardly coming into this one green with the 31-year-old still undefeated in a 19-fight pro career that’s seen him deliver 14 KOs, a menacing return.

The fight will take place in Japan, at 11.45am Irish time this morning with the southpaw vying to become another Irish person to conquer the world.

It will be broadcast on ESPN+.
