Mother of world boxing champion shot by police after allegedly brandishing knife

The mother of IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant has died in hospital following an officer-involved shooting in Tennessee.

Fox News reports that Beth Plant, 51, was shot by police after pulling a knife out of her backpack while being transported to hospital. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, paramedics called for police assistance after Beth Plant became combative in an ambulance that was taking her to hospital. The report states that the woman pulling a knife on the deputy, who responded by reportedly shooting Plant.
