Manchester police launch investigation into Tyson Fury over hate crime accusation

Things aren't going so well for the newly-crowned heavyweight champion of the world.

Greater Manchester Police are launching a hate crime investigation into Tyson Fury's recent comments on homosexuality, according to the Telegraph.

Fury came under fire for his controversial stance on the matter in the lead-up to his fight against Klitschko, but he has firmly denied making any homophobic comments.

Greater Manchester Police received a report of hate crime following the pugilist's interview on BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire programme.

Fury was quizzed on the show over inflammatory comments he made during an interview with the Daily Mail, in which he said,

"There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home. One of them is homosexuality being legal in countries, one of them is abortion and the other is paedophilia. Who would have thought in the 50s and 60s that those first two would be legalised?"

Fury reiterated his point on BBC Radio 2 saying, "Homosexuality, abortion and paedophilia - them three things need to be accomplished before the world finishes. That's what the Bible tells me." After the clip was played, a police spokeswoman revealed that they had received the report.

"At 10:30am on Tuesday we received a report of a hate crime following comments made about homosexuality on the Victoria Derbyshire programme. "As with all allegations of hate crime we are taking the matter extremely seriously and will be attending the victim's address to take a statement in due course."

The news comes it was announced that the boxer would be stripped of his IBF belt after failing to fight mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov.
