Undefeated Monaghan prospect scores devastating first round knockout

"Lethal" is right

Larry Fryers

Monaghan’s Larry Fryers lived up to his ‘Lethal’ moniker at the weekend.

Irish light welterweight Larry Fryers made it four wins from four professional bouts in his comeback in New York.

27-year-old Fryers had not been seen inside the ring since scoring a unanimous decision win over Gabriel Solario on the undercard of Michael Conlan’s debut in Madison Square Garden on St Patrick’s Day. A fractured hand kept him out of action for the past seven months.

His return fight against Tyryen Hamilton in New York’s Rivers Resort and Casino was certainly worth the wait, as Fryers scored a memorable first-round knockout, marking the second KO win of his professional career.

Hamilton looked out of his depth from the start as he desperately tried to stick and move, but Fryers controlled the centre of the ring and went on the offensive with ease. The Monaghan man stalked his opponent down and unloaded fierce combinations and dropped him for the first time with a vicious left-right against the ropes.

The Niagara Falls man go back to his feet, but it became apparent that the finish was coming once Fryers was countering everything he threw at him with firm punches up top. This pattern kept repeating itself until a left hand counter put the American away for good.
