“Have a lovely fight… hope I bayt the shite out of ye!”
Someone’s 0 must go on Saturday night as two undefeated pugilists duke it out in the women’s WBA lightweight title eliminator. To the victor of Katie Taylor vs Nina Meinke will go the spoils of the WBA inter-continental title as well as a world title shot. Considering the bout will feature on the prelims of the world heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko in a sold-out Wembley stadium, the fight will garner a lot of attention.
The fight basically sells itself, which is a great thing because neither fighter seems too keen on using the tried-and-tested ‘let’s generate hype through a manufactured beef’ technique to promote the bout.
Both warriors were all smiles during their obligatory staredown, exchanging pleasantries and laughing away as if they were about to attend a concert together as opposed to trying to shut each other’s lights out.
We’re sure this is just the calm before the storm. We all know about the Pride of Bray’s phenomenal achievements in the amateur ranks and she has continued that fine form in her professional career, winning all four of her bouts so far, two by knockout.
Her German opponent is unbeaten in five and also has two knockout victories under her belt. The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.
